MARQUETTE — Andrea Ingmire has been the Director of the Peter White Public Library since June 2016.
When asked about the most satisfying aspect of her job, she stated, “hearing from a patron that the library has met a need for themselves or their family. Often folks think the best reward is hearing that a child loves the library, and I admit that is pretty great. But, I get really excited when an adult who didn’t grow up using the library finds us.”
She has been busy with many exciting upcoming programs happening at the library in 2022.
These programs include a memory lab, a way for people to preserve and transfer family movies, photos and files into digital formats; and the Victoria E. Wolf recording booth, a sound proof booth that comes with basic recording equipment and technology that patrons can utilize.
The library continues to digitize The Mining Journal in collaboration with Northern Michigan University and local donors. New and revived older programs are also popping up, including winter reading youth programs and movie and music programming series for adults.
She has also worked hard to help the library adapt to changes due to Covid. The library has had shortened hours, but offers virtual services for those still wanting to take part in library activities. They continue to request patrons wear a mask while in the building.
“Libraries are the great equalizers, providing services to all community members regardless of their socioeconomic status. This gives opportunities for everyone to have access to research and recreational reading materials, as well as technology and equipment. Librarians continue to be trusted resources for information. With the overwhelming amount of dis-information available, finding reputable sources is a very important service we offer,” Ingmire said.
